Search

A search facility will feature in the next stage of development of this website.

All users will be able to view the indexes to the Cayman Islands Law Reports (CILRs) and Unreported Judgments to see whether particular cases exist within these sections of the site. However, the texts to the CILRs and Unreported Judgments will be in the secure area of the site, where they will require either ‘exempt’, ‘pay-per-view,’ or ‘subscription’ access. An enhancement of this facility will enable searches of the Laws of the Cayman Islands with annotated references to relevant decided cases as reported in and hyper-linked to the CILRs.

Users with the requisite access will be able to search the CILRs and the annotated Laws using several methods as follows:

  • By case name
  • By legal subject matter and subcategory
  • By legislation construed
  • By date
  • By the names of the parties
  • By the name of the judge
  • By the name of the court
  • By free text searching of the text of the judgement

The results of the search will be displayed in a list sorted by user-defined criteria such as date, court, etc., with hyperlinks to the relevant documents.

The search criteria for Unreported Judgments will be as follows:

Civil / Criminal / Both

In addition to specific search facilities within the judgments and legislation sections of the site, which will be backed by a database, there will also be a powerful full-text search facility capable of returning a list of pages where the search term exists. The search engine will return all instances of the search term, and will support Boolean and other advanced forms of searching.
